SWDA promotes environmental sustainability and climate resilience by restoring degraded ecosystems and empowering communities, particularly women, as environmental stewards and green entrepreneurs.
Through its flagship “Forests for Life (F4L)” initiative, SWDA implements Participatory Forest Management (PFM) in collaboration with communities and government partners. The program supports watershed rehabilitation, agroforestry, climate-smart agriculture, and sustainable natural resource management.
In parallel, SWDA promotes green livelihoods such as energy-efficient cookstove production, apiculture, and high-value spice cultivation, alongside large-scale tree planting and ecosystem restoration.
These efforts have rehabilitated extensive degraded landscapes, restored watershed systems, and expanded sustainable income opportunities for rural households and women-led enterprises, while strengthening community resilience to climate change.
