On 22 May 2026, the Siiqqee Women’s Development Association (SWDA) officially inaugurated a brand-new Women and Girls’ Safe Space (WGSS), a transformative step forward in our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community.

This achievement is part of our project “Scaling Up Gender-Based Violence Response in Emergencies (GBViE),” implemented with the vital support of UNICEF Ethiopia, aimed at strengthening frontline protection systems and localized emergency response in Wayu Tuka Woreda.

What This Space Means

The WGSS is more than a building; it is a lifeline. Fully equipped with a confidential counselling room, a resting area, a functional kitchen, and a private washroom, this space was built with one purpose: to ensure that every woman and girl who walks through its doors feels safe, dignified, and supported.

A Commitment Signed, A Promise Made

The inauguration brought together government officials, community leaders, and key partners, all of whom signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guarantee the long-term protection and proper use of this facility. This space will remain exclusively dedicated to providing life-saving services, rebuilding social networks, and empowering women and girls with new skills and opportunities.
