Siiqqee Women’s Development Association Celebrates Five Years of AWESOME Project Success
Addis Ababa, October 30, 2025 – Siiqqee Women’s Development Association, funded by the Netherlands government, hosted a vibrant half-day workshop titled “Celebrating Achievements and Protecting the Gains” at Aya Hotel. The event highlighted the impactful five-year journey of the AWESOME project, which has strengthened women’s movements in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda.
The ceremony began with a traditional blessing by the Abbaa Gadaa leader, followed by a warm welcome from Mrs. Zertihun Tefera, Executive Director of Siiqqee women’s development association, who invited guests to celebrate the organization’s remarkable achievements.

Key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ethiopian Women with Disabilities National Association (EWDNA), the Police Commission, the Women and Children Affairs Office, and the Attorney’s Office, actively participated in commemorating the project’s successes.
Mrs. Lidiya, Member of the Ethiopian Parliament and Director of Women and Children Affairs in Sheger City, delivered the keynote address, praising Siiqqee’s vital role in preventing and responding to gender-based violence. She emphasized that collaboration and sustained commitment are essential to ending violence against women and extended heartfelt congratulations on the project’s outstanding impact.

Mr. Asfaw, Assistant Program Manager at Siiqqee women’s development association, presented a detailed PowerPoint on the AWESOME initiative’s purpose, activities, key achievements, challenges, and sustainability plans post-phase-out. His report showcased outcomes at individual, societal, and institutional levels, supported by compelling data from the project’s five years of implementation.

Several participants, many of whom have been trained through Siiqqee, shared moving testimonies of personal transformation. They credited the program with empowering them to improve their lives, support their families, and contribute positively to their communities, expressing deep gratitude for Siiqqee’s lasting contributions.
