Siiqqee Women’s Development Association Successfully Presents Nine-Month Evaluation of Gender-Responsive Justice Project Activities

On September 18, 2025, at the Organization for Women in Self Employment (WISE), Siiqqee Women’s Development Association, supported by funding from the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA), successfully conducted a comprehensive nine-month evaluation of the “Enhancing Gender Responsive Justice through Legal Empowerment in Sheger City” project.

The event gathered key stakeholders from 12 sub-cities of Sheger City, including partners such as the Sheger City Police Commission, Women and Children Affairs Office, and Attorney’s Office. They reviewed the project’s achievements and strategized on coordinated efforts to improve justice and support services for survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), reinforcing the commitment to strengthen gender justice frameworks in the city.

The session opened with a speech by Mr. Asfaw Kaba, Assistant Program Manager at Siiqqee Women’s Development Association, who highlighted the critical role of collaboration and sustained commitment in preventing and responding to GBV.

Participants reflected on the work done over the past nine months in Sheger City, using the insights gained to plan and refine strategies for the next project phase aimed at addressing challenges and improving overall impact.

Importantly, the evaluation meeting also included a call to action for various stakeholders. Traditional leaders such as Abbaa Gadaa and Hadee Siiqqee were urged to take responsibility and actively participate in GBV prevention efforts. The city administration committed to giving serious consideration to GBV as a priority initiative. Furthermore, schools across Sheger City will integrate a 10-minute daily session strengthening GBV awareness networks in collaboration with the Police Commission, Women and Children Affairs Office, and Attorney’s Office.

Stakeholders attentively participate in the project evaluation meeting.

Looking ahead, Siiqqee Women’s Development Association pledged to seek additional donors sharing the same commitment to gender justice to support ongoing efforts and launch an Income Generating Activities (IGA) fund, aiming to empower survivors and sustain the project’s positive momentum. This successful evaluation marks a significant milestone in Sheger City’s journey toward enhanced gender-responsive justice and coordinated community action against Gender-Based Violence.
