Empowering East Shoa: SWDA and Ipas-Ethiopia Unite to Transform Sexual and Reproductive Health and Right Education

Kilole Hotel, July 22, 2025

A powerful new chapter in community health and empowerment begins today as the Siiqqee Women’s Development Association (SWDA) launched its ambitious project, “Strive for Improved Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Information and Services,” at Kilole Hotel.

The dynamic Project Launching and Sensitization Workshop heralds a new chapter in advancing health and rights for thousands across the East Shoa Zone districts. Further, the workshop increased stakeholder awareness, strengthened cross-sector collaboration, and unified understanding of project goals, laying the groundwork for effective implementation. The workshop convened an impressive assembly of representatives from the Oromia Health Bureau, Oromia Finance Bureau, zonal and woreda offices, alongside a vital partner the donor organization Ipas- Ethiopia.

Welcoming the participants, Mr. Gelalcha Negassa, Program Manager of SWDA, outlined the organization’s strategic priorities and articulated the ambitious goals of the new project. His remarks set an encouraging tone, emphasizing collaboration and community empowerment.

The project will be carried out in 15 kebeles linked to health centers, aiming to provide Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) education to over 27,000 people within the next year. Mr. Kasahun also highlighted that demand creation and advocacy efforts will be supported by a complementary logistics support program in the target areas.
